Back to School
I officially got re-accepted last week and will be taking a few math classes this spring and a couple elementary ed classes this summer then I start my levels which will be two semesters next year. I am both excited and a little apprehensive starting school again. Still working the two jobs and going to school is going to be a lot of work, but I have always loved school and am looking forward to the chance to be a full-time teacher.
Until the chaos begins I am hoping to keep my life as simple as possible. It doesn't seem to be working very well, but most of the extra things are fun, so I can't complain.

Good Reminder :)

Pres. Harold B. Lee's Quote on America
"Men may fail in this country, earthquakes may come, seas may heave beyond their bounds, there may be great drought, disaster, and hardship, but this nation, founded on principles laid down by men whom God raised up, will never fail. This is the cradle of humanity, where life on this earth began in the Garden of Eden. This is the place of the new Jerusalem. This is the place that the Lord said is favored above all other nations in all the world. This is the place where the Savior will come to His temple. This is the favored land in all the world. Yes, I repeat, men may fail, but this nation won't fail. I have faith in America; you and I must have faith in America, if we understand the teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are living in a day when we must pay heed to these challenges.
I plead with you not to preach pessimism. Preach that this is the greatest country in all the world. This is the favored land. This is the land of our forefathers. It is the nation that will stand despite whatever trials or crises it may yet have to pass through.
The Lord will not leave His church without direction. Revelation for our guidance comes to the leadership of the kingdom of God on earth.

Garden Journal
This year I planted:
1 row - Brocolli
1 row -Peas
1 row - Spinach
1 row - Romain Lettuce
1 row - Carrots
1+ row - Peppers
8 plants - Tomatoes
6 rows - corn
6 plants - pumpkin
8 plants - cucumber
2 rows - onion (one row dudded)
4 plants - potatoes
1 row - beans
1 row - green onions
4+ - Watermelon
1 pouch basil
1 pouch parsley
My thoughts are: I think that we had a good amount of everything. I loved having as many onions and green peppers as we did. I don't think we need quite so many tomatoes. Even less cucumber. I think we had too much corn as well. I specifically like the candy corn. I would be happy planting more pumpkins. I planted the Atlantic Giants, which produced fewer, larger pumpkins, which was fun, but I think I would like some standard pumpkins next year. These turned out all funny shaped. I still have frozen pumpkin from last year anyway and won't need sugar pumpkins for a bit. I planted Beefsteak tomatoes and Oregon Spring. I liked the beefsteaks better, plus they are heirloom, I can keep the seeds if needed. I think that the only thing I will try to grow indoor next year may be some watermelon. Everything else honestly grows better if you just stick it in the ground and water. The potatoes didn't turn out very well, I 'm not sure why. Everything else did really really well. The broccoli was pretty good too, we definitely had enough of it. The spinach was great, the romain was good. I would like to plant just as many onions and peppers again. Maybe a different kind of bean which may be hard since I can't remember what I planted. I also plan to plant Garlic in the spring and cilantro along with my parsley and basil. I love Carillisas lemon thyme, so maybe I will try some of that also.
The burried fish worked out great, I think they have a lot to do with our gardening success. The soaker hoses work great as well, but the layout needs to be better to accomodate our tiller. Our rows also need to be wider to accomodate the tiller as well. I am going to stick with my plan in regards to where we should plant the melons and pumpkin etc. I think since I do the watering I know best.

Fun Week!
Andrew just got back from a fun hunting trip where he was able to get a nice Elk. The fun ends when they have to butcher the entire thing. I especially love it because my entire house smells like raw meat for a few. This time it was particularly interesting as they day after Andrew found that he had a small cut...rather a scratch. This scratch turned into a hospital visit today. Sunday evening Andrew was complaining that his finger hurt and he noticed it was looking a little swollen. We cleaned it with Hydrogen Peroxide and neosporin and added an nice bandaid. We relaxed watching Goonies. Andrew surprisingly was freezing cold. Now I know that it was not cold. I know when it is cold. Regardless I spent the moving trying to warm his toes and keep him covered with blankets etc. He never really warmed up. After the movie a quick restroom trip sent him over the edge and uncontrollable shivering commenced. He came into the bedroom and was laughing because he was shivering so hard. We knew something had to be wrong and even though Andrew was laughing I was ready to take him to the Hospital. We called Todd my brother-in-law instead and he said we did the right things and to keep the swollen finger warm to increase blood flow. He mentioned that if Andrew got too high of a fever (which he did have a small one) or streaks of red going up his arm, he should go into the Dr.
Andrew didn't sleep well, He was cold for quite a while, but as I laid next to him I was roasting.
The next morning Andrew looked down at his arm and as he watched the red streaks spread up his arm...he decided it was time to go in. Yada yada yada 2 shots and 6 pills a day and a promise to return tomorrow if there is no improvement and we have Andrew, the one handed invalid.
After I got out of classes I went to see him and you could literally see exactly where his veins went clear up his arm to his bicep. Lovely.
Sad truth. We cleaned out the fridge to add 2, 5-gallon, buckets of butchered Elk meat to stay cool until Andrew had it ground. We had to take 2 shelves out to make room. The sad truth, we didn't have to throw any food out or take any food out.

9 puppies

9 puppies, yep there are a lot, but that is good for us. We are hoping to sell them, which we are certain we have already sold one and have 2 maybies as well. They are stinking cute, so even if any of you don't want to you should come and see them while they are here. I think they will be much cuter in a few weeks, but still cute as is.Andrew just got back from a week long hunting trip and shot (bow) a bull elk that scored 375...which is good, really good. I don't really speak that language, but I am really glad that he is home.

Being Honest, and rambling.
Today I am going to be honest. True to my thoughts and feelings that may honestly be considered half-empty. They may be judged.
This month Andrew and I will be blissfully and happily married for 3 years. Hoping to add a kid to the mix for 2. Many many times during the day I have to remind myself of the wonderful husband I have, the great jobs I have been blessed with, ward, family etc. I have to remind myself all the time because I am so obsessed with wanting to have a little baby that it consumes any spare thought that I might have.
I pretend every time I hear someone gets pregnant to smile and be civil. I truly am happy for those people...really I am. It doesn't make my situation any easier. At first I found it really easy to not be bitter. I wouldn't really consider myself bitter now, but I find myself withdrawing from friends and family who are so lucky to get their chances at parenthood. I purposely don't check blogs of friends that are moving into that phase of life (at what seems to be lightening speed). It is hard and I often feel left behind. Like the kid who didn't get invited to the party, but everyone else did.
My dog just had nine puppies (ha!) who would ever thought I would be jealous of my dog. Man I sound really pathetic. Count your many blessings name them one by one. They come when they are supposed to. Have faith and trust in God's plan for you. Pray for patience.
I don't want to belittle any trials that many of you may have, but just remember to be grateful for the little ones that you may have. There are many of us that would love to have some, so when you feel you are on your last straw....remember just how valuable that little person really is.
I found out today that two of my reading student had been offered cigarettes by their parents. One of them was pretending with his pencil. They are 6. I told them they should tell their parents to stop they will get so sick, and they said they had tried. It is amazing to look into those innocent little faces and realize the future that lies ahead of them when you hear these things. Ironic.
I'm tired of crying about it. Half of me still wants it so bad, and the other half is ready to give up. If I'm not trying then I can't be disappointed.
:) I always think of those stories where these valiant women suffer all these trials with no complaint....I guess I'm not trying very hard. I really should do better. It is probably that I am selfish and want this for myself. I shouldn't be thinking about myself so much. Maybe if I had something to distract me into selfless work....you know like a KID...(just kidding).
I'm not writing any of this for sympathy, mostly just to be honest with myself and not "pretend" that everything is sugar-coated and perfect. I am going to keep trying to better myself and not be so selfish in my thoughts and allow myself to wallow. Onward Christian Soldiers...Ask and ye shall receive, Knock and it shall be opened unto you.

Dungeon

I started my classes last week! I was very excited to get things started and found that I even get my own classroom (not all art specialists do). The classroom is part of the old section of this school that was built way back when. You go down these stairs that are not up to code, so they don't let the kids use them -- they have to use the back door. When you get into the room it is pretty old and really needs a paid job and the cupboards have been painted probably 6 times. I still had my own desk though, and there is a wall of straight windows. I was even more excited when I got to see that I had ample supplies for my needs. The lady at the district that gave me some materials seemed a little skeptical of what I would get to use in that regard, but I think I will be happy with it.
Confession. I am a little nervous. I was pretty worn out after my first two days. My throat was tired from not just talking, but talking loudly over the children. My legs were tired, my ears were tired, and my patience was tired. :) I didn't LOVE my first few days, however, I am still looking forward to Monday...good sign. It was fun to have the kids wave at me in the hall and wisper, that is the art teacher. I was even given a rock by one of my students. A lucky rock. I was grateful and it is in my desk.
I get 40 minutes with each grade a day and I teach 3 days a week. I go through a lot of kids and teach the exact same lesson 15 times. It is a lot of work and monotonous. I am really looking forward to getting to know the staff and the kids better though and think that it is going to be a really good opportunity for my to get my foot in for a full-time position, which I think will be easier than what I am doing.
My boss at the Title Company was really nice about the situation, but I really didn't get much of a chance to let him decide. He had a whole 6 hrs to think about it and was sitting next to me when the principle called to get an answer on whether I was coming or not. I smiled at my boss while I was on the phone and said that I would force an answer out of him. We chatted for a second and he consented, but I think he was a little unhappy that he was loosing me as his assistant. Sigh, oh well, sorry David.
In other news, we are getting a horse. It is painted, black and white and it is being trained right now and we will get it in 6 weeks. We will also be getting a litter of puppies in the next week, which will be an adventure. And Charlie (who has been nick-named "humper-dink") is getting fixed tomorrow as well as the cat and we are hoping he will just be "perdink". If you catch my drift. A new kitchen table is also on the needs list, as we gave my sister hers back, so if any of you know anyone selling or where to get a descent table...let me know.

Waiting....
Last week proved to be an interesting one. I was home sick on Monday, which is only the 2nd time I have done that since I started working at Northern Title 2 years ago. I am 95% certain I have IBS (acts up especially during your menstrual cycle), which was why I was so bad on Monday. My lower intestines were very sensitive to touch, which included bending over, coughing etc. It was very painful, I left work almost buckled over in pain. later realized that buckled over was the least comfortable position. After a hot bath and warm drink I felt a little better. I wasn’t much better the next day, but there was no way I could stand laying on the couch for another day. I was so sick of daytime T.V. I decided to work anyway and luckily I could sit in just the right position at work that I didn’t have to move much.
Thursday I went to the interview and it went really well, you can just tell if you connect well, which I did in this interview. They called me and offered me the job that afternoon. (P.S. School started Thursday, so they were in a bit of a rush to get this done) Unfortunately David, my boss, was out of town and I couldn’t ask him anything, which I explained to them, but told them I would take it contingent on whether I could stay at Northern.

Cat's anyone?

Andrew and I were certain that our big mamma (cat) had hidden her kittens and then either abandoned them or they died because just as their eyes were opening they disappeared and we never saw them again, even the mamma we didn't see for a bit but after a week or so we saw her all the time. We had our other cat bulging at the seams so my dissapointment of not getting to see the kitties was remedied with knowing we would get to see more soon. Today we heard some mewing in the garage and found that our little mamma had her kittens and had hid them behind the garbage bins, but that was not all we found, we found the original 4 kittens. 10 folks, that is right, we now have 10 kittens on our hands.....anybody want one?
We don't dump our garbage every week because we don't need to, so I don't know how long they were there, but I will tell you what those mammas are going to get fixed as soon as we can get them into the vet. As much of a hassle as it will be to give them away, I have to say they are SO CUTE!

Challenge
Try for 24 hours not to think critically of anyone especially yourself, if you do, you have to start over.
I think it will be really hard, but I can imagine it will be an excellent exercise and am pretty excited to try it.
Side note: I have been reading the Bible with Andrew and I really have a hard time, but I am determined to get through it. I just started to read the BOM again on my own and I feel so much better....is it bad to be biased?

High or Low

Andrew and I have a never-ending battle over the kitchen stove and how hot we should cook things. When he turns something on he automatically turns it to either medium or low and just waits….. I don’t like to wait, I turn it on high and then when I get it up to heat, I will turn down to whatever. The benefit to this is that I don’t have to wait. The reason for NOT doing it this way is because quite often I still get impatient if it is on high and I go and do something else while it is warming and things on occasion will boil over…Ok so sometimes they boil over a lot (but hey I didn’t have to wait, what is a little water on the burner anyway?)
I don’t remember the exact circumstances that took place, but I believe Andrew was on the phone with his mom when Andrew watched me automatically flip the stove on high and walk away. He proceeded to get after me for doing it again, and then had to explain to his mom what was going on.
A couple of weeks ago I got a package in the mail from Andrew’s Mom. It was a square magnet with a brown background and white letters that read:
“ONLY COWARDS COOK ON LOW”
Ha ha ha, it was really funny Andrew even laughed and it now hangs proudly on the fridge.

Turn of Events
No teaching job yet, but there are possibilities still out there. I applied for a part-time art teaching position last week and got and interview which went..ok we'll see. Today I submitted my art endorsement to the ARL program which will allow me to teach art. There is also another ART specialist position that I applied for yesterday at an elementary school, which is my top pick at this point. AND tomorrow I can apply to be a teaching assistant and take that option if needed. Jobs are still getting posted here and there in Logan so I feel like there are still chances at finding a job. Any way I slice it I will get paid the same or more with any of my teaching options, so I feel like it is a win win no matter what.

Busy busy busy

I feel like I have been cheating lately because I have just been posting pictures, which takes a lot less time, but I feel like it is adding something different to my blog. SO, an update for the last month or so.
I decided in March that with it taking so long for us to have kids that I needed to find a more career-directed job. I had been wanting to be a teacher for some time and decided that now was the time to look into it further. Long story short I have been accepted to the ARL (alternate route to licensure) program that will allow me to teach while getting certified. The only tricky part is getting the schools to hire you. I have applied to many places and still am working towards a teaching position. I have 18 months to get a job, so I have time to work towards openings at Christmas as well as next school year.
Meanwhile my boss at my current job has offered me comparable wages and benefits so that I will stay. I haven't gotten the official proposal, it was supposed to come Wednesday, but they were waiting for insurance figures. Now I have a decision to make. I will have to determine exactly what I will do based on their offer and whether or not I can get a teaching job nearby.
A few things that make the decision a little more complicated comes with some very good, helpful news. Andrew and I decided to get some infertility testing done and without going into personal details I will just say that we now know that with a fairly inexpensive ($150) procedure we can likely get pregnant. We are to plan to try this every month for 3 months. Knowing this may help us decide which decision to make. I honestly don't want to wait another second, but Andrew and I agreed we would decide on a date when we heard the offer from my work.
We also have a neighbor offer to sell their house to us with a rent-to-own options if needed. We love the place that we are in, but it isn't for sale, so the option is there and a possible consideration and could be very good for a starter house...actually it would be a good house for quite a while.
I am feeling very grateful at this point I think that all of the things that have happened in the last few months have been great blessings to us in our lives. Things are looking brighter...I didn't even realize they were dark :).
I can't have a summer post without mentioning the garden, my baby. :) I have all my veggies up including strawberries, watermelon, and hopefully we will get grapes this year. For my birthday I got an early present....a tiller! I know it is not exactly what everyone would like, but with all the hoeing (sp?) I felt like it was worth it. Andrew had to do the tilling, it was kinda beefy for me, but we got the whole garden tilled in the time it would have taken us to do 2 rows. I only wish I had it last saturday as I tilled a flower bed that badly needed it....it only took 4 hours, I have to say it looks really good though. AND can you beleive all the rain?! It has been raining like crazy here, lots of thunder and lightening too. There are some people in Smithfield that were flooded and had 8 feet of water in their basement, they had to break a window to get all the water out to a reasonable level. We have barely need to water though which is great and we still seem to have some sunshine in the mornings. No end in sight either. The farmers here are happy.
Another exciting thing happened this weekend. Alishia and I did our first wedding. Alishia did all the photography and I told everyone what to do and we had everything organized and put together and had a plan for where we wanted to take all of our pictures and so when they came out everything went pretty slick. I don't know that both of us will be needed at the receptions, but I think having us both there at the temple was a good idea. I will take the next step and work on all the enhancing and graphic design work and then we'll be done. They thought we were very proffessional and wondered how long we had been doing business together (nobody could tell we were sisters). We didn't tell them this was the first wedding we had ever done, but that we had both been doing some work seperately but just recently decided to work together.
I am excited to get working on all the enhancing...the fun part. Alishia kept saying how fun it was and that she could do that for a living. I kept thinking that we would hire someone as soon as we could to be Alishia's assistant and I would stick with the editing. Not that I didn't enjoy working with Alishia, but I think I would prefer doing the computer stuff. :) It was a lot of work, but I think it all went well.
We will post some updated pictures on our blog www.elegantlees.blogspot.com, and with the proceeds with this wedding we will get the website up and running www.elegantlee.com sweet.
Happy Sunday everyone, hopefully I will find the time to blog again soon!
