Common Core....what is it good for.

It seems more and more I learn to hold my tongue to keep from being politically incorrect or offensive.  I really don't have much to say that is controversial, but I have decided that some people get a thrill out of being controversial (not that it is a bad thing, that enthusiasm has is purpose).  I think that I just like being able to relax and not worry about every little thing.  Maybe it was the last presidential election that I got so caught up in that just left me disappointed that I just feel like not caring for a while.  I am completely brainwashed from my own biased that it doesn't matter what the government does, I won't like it just out of spite.

There are some issues with the Common Core that have come up lately that I, as a teacher, spent a little time researching.  It was crazy to me how much different information was out there.  Who can you trust?  Seriously even the people that are "credible" or reliable resources...you wonder about.  You obviously have to look at the information and find out what is correct and do the digging, but it is a little annoying that you can't just trust the information you are given without wondering if there was some kind of motive.  I found myself thinking "Utah wouldn't have done it if....______"  But then I sit an double guess, would they do it for money?  Do they really run with the very best interest of parents and students?  Deep down I want to say yes, but there is sadly a slight bit of uncertainty.  I need to meet these people and talk to them so I can feel more confident.

It is interesting to see how my life perspective changes as I get older.  The more I learn and the more I figure out how life really works as a grown up....the more I realize that there are a lot of things that are not as certain or trustable as there used to be.  I guess that is part of growing up and part of being in a society and a position to voice your wishes.  I think it is our job to question, not necessarily stir the pot or be oppositional, but to give things a second thought and decide what is OK and what isn't.

Work is good.  I really like being a teacher.  It really is a good job if you like to be a leader and make a difference in a big way.   Being a teacher at a school, I am 1 out of 15 people that help make a lot of decisions for our school.  There are a lot of people that come together and work at a school and you get to be a big part of that.  You are also in a field that impacts a lot of peoples lives and you have a chance to make someone's day better by simply looking after the best interests of their kid.

I have had a lot of thoughts on my mind that I just haven't said out loud, I wanted to express myself and throw my thoughts out there.  SO, sorry for this purposeless post that has no significance to probably anyone, but...I wanted to write it down.

And life continues....

She gardens with me and it is pretty cute.  She takes her little plastic watering can and refills it over and over and over again.  She told us that she wants to stay here.  Yesterday we played with a kickball in the yard and she is going to be a lot tougher than myself.  When she went after the ball she jumps and rolls over the ball.  She likes to be with me all the time, taking a bath, watching t.v., playing outside, working on the computer, doing nails I have a little buddy with me all the time, fun.  I found a bunch of my keepsake toys and she has been loving them.  I remember why I kept them.  We read together every night.  The doctor said she was in excellent health.  She is right on track for weight, and just a little short for her age.  She recognizes all her letters and colors and numbers.  She is working on writing her ABC's and her name.  The look of pure joy on her face after she does my hair and how pretty it looks.  We have much more regular meals and I have a little pal to help me come up with ideas as well as fix it.  She got her kindergarten shots and in her words "she was so bwave".  She can not make the TH sound.  She'll say things like "c'mon muddah, let's get the show on da woad".
